Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone.

After a week of clear skies and not seeing snow for about a month, the weather has decided to change once again. I woke up this morning to see snow covering the ground.

I guess Winter isn't entirely over. It's 0˚C.

Anyway, my date with the Kazakhstanian Blond Chick has been postponed to this Friday. So that gives me about two days to browse through my old notes i took in German class a year ago. I figured i'd give her another chance, who knows, she may actually be a fun person to hang around with.

Or not.

And so i've agreed to meet up with three other women for more English-German Tandems.

So far the only information that i've been able to squeeze out these women are the following. One is German teacher, another is soon-to-be lawyer but still is a student. And another is a Psychologist who likes bike riding and is into Alternative Rock. One is thirty-five, the other is twenty-eight years old and the last is thirty. One lives on the other side of the Rhine river, another is about ten minutes by train from me and the other lives only just two blocks away.

They all seem to have had some experience with doing a tandem language exchange and they would rather just practise "small talk" as opposed to structured lessons and learning about Grammar.

Out of the three, two of them wrote back to me in English, so i'm excited at the thought i'd be able to speak in English with some other people as opposed to just J and my sister.

So when i told J i've got another two dates and joked around that my 2011 diary is starting to fill up, he seemed happy for me.

But then he suddenly busted out with, When do i get to go on a date with you?

And then it dawned on me that maybe J was feeling a little left out.

So i suggested we meet up on Friday night for drinks after i'm done with my date with the Kazakhstanian Blond Chick.

For once, i'm taking charge and making plans.

So the plan is to check out Die Wohngemeinschaft [sounds like Dee Vone-guh-mine-shaaft].

It's a bar/cafe somewhere in the city and is basically layed out to look like a huge apartment. Each area is decorated differently and is themed according to the character/interests of several room mates living together.

There's Annabell, Jojo, Easy and Mai Li.

[If you would like to translate any paragraphs, copy + paste the text and go to online-translator.com].

One "room mate" even has an old VW van parked in one of the areas where you can sit inside and have drinks. Check out the photos here.

Or watch the 6 minute video...

It's in German but there you can get a better picture of what the place looks like. The interior is decked out in 50s and 60s furniture and apparently, "Mai Li" even has a ping pong table.

I can't wait to check it out.

It seems like ages since J and i actually went out on a Friday night. We've been so accustomed to lounging around at home like hermits, that i can't even remember the last time we went out on a proper date together.
