Piz•ze•ri•a

In the past 11 months or so, i've tried numerous Margarita pizzas both store bought and ones that are freshly made. Those bought in the supermarket are relatively cheaper but somehow the taste is just not there. And if it is, it's usually finished before i've even able to take a proper breath. Sadly, there is no Domino's in this country and my taste buds are craving their Vegetarian minus the onions thin crust pizzas.

So over the weekend we decided to make our own!

Well technically it wasn't from scratch since all i had to do was add water. But in this day in age when Time is of essence, quick steps are warmly welcomed. There was no need to wait for the dough to rise. But after calculating all the ingredients it came up to be about the same as 2 freshly made ones plus or minus a few cents depending on toppings.

The only preparations needed was dicing the tomatoes, making a basic tomato sauce base with peper, salt, herbs and garlic then ripping open the packet of cheese. We don't own a rolling pin and the one at the supermarket cost a little over 6€ [which is a tad pricey for an instrument that is only going to be used once and awhile]. So i put my smart cells together and thought, why not use an old wine bottle?

It worked out perfectly! Even Little L got in on the action. It brought a huge smile and a few giggles into the mix. I remember as a child i would assist my mother in the kitchen and i found it to be useful now that i am all grown up. Yes i like to cook.

Little L wanted to make a mini pizza all on her own, so with the left over dough that didn't fit in the baking tray, she rolled the dough to her hearts' content. I think the hands-on experience made it even more fun and it distracted her from sitting in front of the TV. Even though part of the topping went into her mouth instead of the pizza, i think she found the experience to be fruitful.

Our fabulous new IKEA oven we bought over Christmas has been like a gift from heaven. An investment worthwhile. We threw on the herbs later [apparently that's what the Pizza expert guy on the Cooking show said we should do].

And the finished product was better than we imagined!

One half was a basic Margarita and the other Tuna. And with a drizzle of garlic oil on the top, it gave each slice a slight kick. Little L was so impressed with the pizza that she asked if we could make Pizzas again. Her favorite word in English is 'De•li•cious' and hearing her say it with a heavy German accent over and over, accompanied with 2 little thumbs up, shows i must be doing something right.

well done! cooking with kids is so brilliant i think. Whenever i say she can, sasha will jump up from whatever she is doing, run to get her little stool to stand on, and start mucking about in the kitchen!

I just went into shock. I am so impressed at how well you're doing with the whole "entertaining" a kid scenario! I might be asking you for tips soon!!! so proud of you! x

allie: Thanks! Yea i must say, i was impressed at how eager and determined she was with rolling the dough. She would constantly brush Jens' hands away when he wanted to assist.

She goes into a fit when we try and get her to eat vegetables of any kind. Often we just give up and later sneak it on her plate. In this case we sprinkled diced tomatoes on her pizza and said that the Pizza guy in the shop says all Pizzas have some tomatoes and that's how Margaritas are made.

I don't think she was convinced though.

Farrah: Oh i'm horrible at being the "grown up" and don't have the heart to yell. So Jens has to be the stern one and she totally listens to him. But somehow i've managed to swing it and get her trust.

But a weekend with a 6 year old tires me out so much that i contemplate whether i want children of my own so soon.

Ms. Redd: We have our moments but i think she's warming up to me and has accepted that i will be around for awhile.

Yea, i must say it was the best pizza i've had in awhile. With enough planning and desired ingredients, it makes all the work at the end worth it.

Try kneading the dough by hand, it's a good stress reliever!
