Whether or not you're an avid Animal Planet watcher, most of you may recognise or have heard of an enthusiastic, thick Aussie accented bloke who tackles crocodiles, venomous snakes and deadly animals for a living. His way of educating the young and old about the many animals and creatures majority of us wouldn't dare go near.
This guy was no hollywood Crocodile Dundee, he was the real deal... he was the 'Crocodile Hunter'. I'm talking about Steve Irwin. Who unfortunately got killed today "by a stingray barb that pierced his chest", you can read the report on CNN online.
I remember watching tv in Melbourne and remembering him say, "Crickey! We've got a live one..." and i thought, what is the guy on!? And as kooky as he was, he made learning about the wild just a little more entertaining and somehow grabbed your attention. Believe it or not, they even have a site dedicated to his quotes.
It is obvious that he left his mark worldwide and he will always be remembered for his utmost passion towards educating the masses and his love of conserving natures' beasts. Proof that he made such an impact around the world, one can only read the dozens of tributes that are being sent in to CNN.
Condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.
