First day of the third quarter and what have i done? Apart from the usual domestic chores like laundry and doing the dishes. I made myself some tuna-pesto-pasta, watched TV, took a nap and managed to mess up my space in a span of seven hours.
My original plan was to get changed and trot along to Mid Valley and do some retail therapy but i got as far as my bed and then realised that i ate too much pasta and fell right back to sleep... yea i know i'm a fuckin' lazy git. I took the day off [applied leave, as i knew i'd be too knackered to go to work] and i did absolutely jack shit! WELL DONE!
So day before yesterday, i arrived in Ipoh with Commando, BrucelyBrewst and MrsFireworks, right after work. Checked into the hotel and a few others had already checked in earlier that day for sound check and what not.
I was knackered and opted to just chill in my room. Attempted to sleep and what seemed like 5 minutes, in reality was 45 minutes. My eyes were closed but i could hear the TV on. And no, i didn't want to mute it, in case i fell in a deep sleep and couldn't wake up.
Anyway, by the time we got to the club, there was quite a number of people inside Y2K. There was a mini stage built outside and there were heaps of chairs and round bar type tables. There was some kind of performance going on outside. But we went inside and DJ Drive had started playing.
Minutes went by and it felt like i was a fish out of water. All these strange faces, in a foreign club, in a small town. Yet at the same time it felt like i'd seen some of the faces, most likely at our Hardsequence events. There were quite a number of guys in their reflective phat pants and i must say, a good number of them were out to have a good time. Was great to see so much enthusiasm. As packed as it was, some even jumped on the platform and started shuffling [i'm guessing they were regulars].
By the time we went out side, it was past midnight and it was officially Merdeka. We watched a bunch of performances and the whole 'Vanessa Mae' performace, well wasn't the REAL deal, it was Malaysia's VERSION of Vanessa Mae. Hmmm false advertising since the image they used on the eflyer WAS the REAL Vanessa Mae [perhaps they thought they could pull in an older crowd]. *shrugs*
But still, this Violinist managed to entertain the crowd with a questionable selection of music styles; from Dance to the jewish tune 'Hava Negila' to some country song. And showing off her splits and leg kicking. Followed by even more performances by the organisers' dancers.
When Drive came back on, the crowd that stayed back for the performances ended up leaving. I think we might have scared the Ipoh people with our enthusiasm and overdose in picture taking... ehehhe. Bass Agents came on by 1.30am and despite the crowd disappearing because it had threatened to rain. A bunch of us stayed right in front and showed our support. It was only the younger ones, the group of KL people and random others that stayed til the very end.
By 4am they played their last track and it was time for us to say good night. We were told there was going to be a road block. We took our chances and as we were nearing the flashing lights and flurescent jackets... we were signalled to pull over. We handed over our ICs. Mine of course not being a Malaysian IC, the young cop had to find some fault. And said that he would not accept my photocopied passport and Australian Keypass.
So i'm thinking, SHIT, NOW WHAT? I've worked in this country for 3 and a half years and haven't had any problems with using my Keypass. The younger copper insists that i must bring my passport... which i'm thinking, are YOU MAD? Carrying a Dutch passport whilst i go clubbing is insane, i might as well just chuck it out since it's good as gone.
After a bit of chatting and pleading with the cop. BrucelyBrewst came out with the classic line, "is there any way we can settle this" and doing the 'secret' handshake to close the deal... the happy copper let us go with a "i just got bribed" smile.
By the time we got to the hotel, the rest of KL people were making their way there. I'd say at least 20+ of our friends were there for support. It felt like we were in KL only difference was we were at a hotel instead of somebody's apartment/house. A few of us even made it to brekkie, which was probably the funniest adventure i had been on [but i won't be getting into that, i guess you had to be there... ehehhe].
Anyway 1pm, a few of us checked out and headed home. I jumped into Supastar's car with MissChiliPadi and we got lost the minute we exited the hotel compounds trying to find the highway. After several U-turns we finally found it. [Seriously, Ipoh signage needs some serious updating because whoever did it must have been drunk or high].
Although going around in circles, i clearly remembered how amazing the sky looked. I was so busy taking pictures with my camera phone, seriously i was like a japanese tourist randomly pointing up towards the sky, i wasn't too bothered. The sky was stained in a bright, crisp cyan and the sun lit up the cotton wool type clouds. And with the greenery and rocks in the background, it looked like a page in a fairytale book. It was absolutely surreal. I couldn't help but stare.
And before the moment disappeared, i quickly texted Commando to tell him to check out how pretty the sky looked but i don't think he was as excited as i was cause all he could think about was passing out on his bed. But i wanted to say 'thanks' and i ended the message with, "it's moments like these, that makes Life worth living."
